At about 4:58 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021, police units were alerted to the junction of Vaughn Avenue and Windsor Avenue for a reported pedestrian struck.

Carl Cereghini, 61, of Toms River, had entered the street in an attempt to cross when he was struck by a car traveling north on Vaughn Avenue, according to the initial inquiry. Mr. Cereghini was seriously injured in the collision and was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald is still investigating the accident.

It's the second time in three days that a pedestrian has been hit in Toms River. A woman from Pennsylvania was struck while crossing Hooper Avenue after climbing over the concrete divider on Friday.
