Police Investigate Lifelike Doll Mistaken for Child's Body in South Jersey Marsh

A fisherman who believed he was seeing a child's body drifting in the marsh on Wednesday prompted Egg Harbor Township Police to look into what they believed to be a homicide.

However, investigators claimed that it was a lifelike, anatomically accurate silicone doll.

Together with the Major Crimes Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey State Police, police were called to the vicinity of Ocean Drive off Longport Boulevard on Wednesday morning.

Up until it was discovered that the object was actually a silicone doll wrapped in duct tape and covered in a blanket, police claimed, the investigation was handled as a homicide, per protocol.

"Police will continue to investigate who may have discarded this lifelike doll, and why they chose to do so in a way that wasted valuable resources while it was investigated," officials stated.

The police expressed their gratitude to the other authorities for their assistance and said they were "thankful" it wasn't a real child.

They requested that anyone with knowledge on this event get in touch with the police department in Egg Harbor Township.
