Wind Gusts of up to 60 mph are Possible, Resulting in Power Outages
Forecasters are predicting thunderstorms in the Garden State on Monday, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph capable of knocking out electricity. The storms are the first of a series of rainy days expected this week.
The silver lining: temperatures will rise to the mid-70s today, and thunderstorms will not begin until around 5 p.m. Temperatures will be approximately 65 degrees at the Jersey Shore.
The spring-like temps, on the other hand, aren't going to last: A cold front is expected to approach later this week, bringing temperatures back below average, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for about half of the state from Monday until 1 a.m. Tuesday. Winds of 30 to 50 mph, with gusts of 60 mph, are expected to slam the state.
"Strong winds may cause unprotected objects to be blown around. Tree limbs may be blown down, resulting in a few power disruptions "According to the weather service. "A line of showers with a few embedded thunderstorms will move across the area with a cold front late this afternoon into this evening, with gusts gusting up to 60 mph in areas."
The DOT also advised drivers to exercise extreme caution on Monday, especially if driving a high-profile vehicle. It's also a good idea to secure any unsecured outdoor items.
