Joseph J Elmo, 93, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Community Medical Center. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, he resided in East Rutherford before moving to South Seaside Park and, finally, Toms River.

Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the owner of Elmo’s Place Saloon in the City of Passaic and was a member of Teamsters Local 560. He worked for Maislin Brothers Trucking Company for many years before retiring in the late 1980s.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jennie, for fifty-five years until her passing in 2014. They often spent time in their favorite places: Atlantic City, Niagara Falls, Florida and the Jersey Shore. Joe loved crabbing, fishing, cooking, driving Cadillacs, and attending a good happy hour. He watched Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune each night and always enjoyed being surrounded by his family, whom he loved fiercely. He was always the life of the party! Even at 93, he was quick-witted and loved a good joke. Also he was an avid Jets and Yankees fan. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jennie Elmo. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanine Vivolo, and her husband Scott; his son Joe, and his wife, Dawn; his granddaughter, Marissa Yodonis, and her husband, Nicholas; his grandsons, Joseph Elmo Jr, Anthony Vivolo, and Michael Vivolo; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753, US, on August 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 10am at St. Joseph RC Church in Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
