Remembering Larry James Butts Jr

Larry was a beloved band director for the Toms River Board of Education for many years. Beginning in 2003, he worked for 20 years teaching students the love of music through instruments and singing. Larry taught at many elementary schools in his 20 years, and most recently taught at Joseph A. Citta Elementary School and South Toms River Elementary School. A talented trumpeter and singer throughout his life, he played in many bands in several different genres. He also taught his sons how to play the trumpet and understand the language of song. His love of music resonated and he was able to share it with those around him.

Lakehurst - Larry James Butts, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was 44.

Born in Plainfield, he resided in Old Bridge for most of his life before settling in Lakehurst 19 years ago.

Larry was a beloved band director for the Toms River Board of Education for many years. Beginning in 2003, he worked for 20 years teaching students the love of music through instruments and singing. Larry taught at many elementary schools in his 20 years, and most recently taught at Joseph A. Citta Elementary School and South Toms River Elementary School.

A talented trumpeter and singer throughout his life, he played in many bands in several different genres. He also taught his sons how to play the trumpet and understand the language of song. His love of music resonated and he was able to share it with those around him.

He was predeceased by his grandparents: Dr. Joseph Camarda and Genevieve Camarda. and Samuel and Marion Butts.

Surviving is his wife of 19 years, Kristin; his children: Larry, III, Daniel, Grace, and George; his parents: Mary Lou and Larry, Sr.; his siblings: Rebecca Roche and her husband Tim, Jonathan Butts, and Anthony Butts and his wife Jessie; and his nephews: Edward and Ian.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 10AM. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
