Remembering Retired OCPO Sergeant Robert Abrams

Robert C. Abrams, Jr. of Toms River, NJ, DOB: May 28, 1965, Age 58 passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at home.

Sergeant Robert Abrams, a retired OCPO, lost his fight with cancer. In 1989, Bob joined OCPO and soon established himself as a valuable mentor and team member.

The majority of his career was spent in the Major Crime Unit's Arson Squad, but he also worked in the Juvenile Unit.

When he retired in 2014, he was a renowned and honorably decorated arson investigator. Bob later served as the East Dover Fire Company's Chief, President, and Life Member.

Born in Rahway, NJ, his family moved to Toms River in 1977. Bob graduated in 1983, from Toms River High School East. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Trenton State College.

Bob retired as a Detective Sergeant, from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, serving in the Juvenile Unit and most of his career in the Arson Unit within Major Crimes.

Bob willingly served his community becoming a Life Member of the East Dover Volunteer Fire Co., in Toms River, NJ, serving for 33 years. Joining in 1990, he served in many Executive and Firematic Officer Positions. He attained the top ranks of Fire Chief and President. He was also a Life Member, and Delegate to the NJ Fireman’s Relief Association, becoming an Exempt, NJ State Fire Fighter. He was an avid New York Giants and New York Mets fan, holding season tickets for the Giants Games for many years.

Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert C. Abrams, Sr. He is survived by his Mother, Maureen Abrams, Wife, Joanne Abrams, Daughters, Nicole Abrams and Holly Abrams, his Brother, Mike Abrams, (Amy), his Aunt, Marjorie Caulfield, Aunt, Judy Hockenjos, Uncle, James Crowell, Uncle, Charles Crowell, and his beloved Beagle, Lily.
