Get Ready for Franklin’s Waves: Jersey Shore Braces for Tropical Storm Impact

Tropical Storm Franklin to bring dangerous rip currents, rough surf to Jersey Shore

Tropical Storm Franklin

The mid-Atlantic tropical storm Tropical Storm Franklin is starting to strengthen, and residents and visitors to the Jersey Shore may have to endure many days of strong surf and perilous rip currents.

National Hurricane Center Beginning early next week, the National Weather Service warned that there may be rip currents and choppy surf in the coastal areas of New Jersey.

"A period of building swells and dangerous rip currents along our coast (are) looking probable as tropical cyclone Franklin tracks by well offshore," NWS forecasts stated starting next week. Despite the fact that Franklin is hundreds of miles offshore, this could have an effect on the Jersey Shore for a few days.

The NWS said, "Building swells should arrive, with seas rising to the 5 to 7 foot range by Monday night and Tuesday."
