The third student from Toms River Schools to be selected for the band—the highest band honor at the high school level—is a senior from Toms River South. The band is the 2023 Music Educators Eastern Division Honors Band.

According to Christopher Test, the band director at Toms River South, clarinetist Jack Harjes won one of the 21 slots in the honors band by outperforming hundreds of other clarinetists from 12 northeastern states and the District of Columbia.

At the Toms River Regional Board of Education meeting in December, Test declared, "He is a phenomenal, phenomenal musician. Test said Harjes is an amazing musician, "incredibly talented. But talent only gets you so far."

Harjes can be found in the band practice rooms at Toms River South, "continuing to get better, continuing to improve," he said, while many of his friends hang out and relax during lunch.

Another musician from the Toms River Schools has been accepted into the band.  According to Test, a vocalist student from Toms River Schools also received a slot.

Harjes, who is also the president of the student council, will give a performance in April at the Music Educators Eastern Division Conference.
