Severe Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected in NJ
This week is predicted to bring Garden State residents a spring-like warmth with highs in the 50s and 60s, showers, and possibly thunderstorms for at least two days.
According to experts, Tuesday night will be stormy with nighttime rain, winds of 15 to 25 mph, and coastal gusts of up to 45 mph likely overnight.
The Garden State is expected to see half an inch to an inch of rain between Tuesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
The strong cold front that is sweeping across major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic might still bring heavy rain and locally gusty, damaging winds to be concerned about.
Travel may be challenging due to the wind and rain, according to
AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski. He said that there may be localized
power outages and tree damage.
The high on Wednesday is expected to be in the mid-60s, with the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon. According to the EPA, localized flooding is probable in places with inadequate drainage.
Even while there are still plenty of sunny skies, Thursday is predicted to be much colder than usual—a "good 5 degrees or so below normal for this time of year"—with highs in the 40s.
