According to the Brick Township Police Department, authorities say three people from New York have been arrested and charged in connection with various thefts and fraudulent purchases throughout the city and across New Jersey.
According to police, the suspects were apprehended at Target on Route 70 in Brick while attempting to conceal products and make purchases with gift cards purchased with a stolen credit card.
Shoplifting, credit card fraud, and theft by deceit were filed against Luis Ramirez-Gonzalez, 29, and Hector Marquez-Tronosco, 41. Shoplifting, credit card fraud, theft by deceit, possession of a fake ID, unlicensed driving, unregistered vehicle, and phony plates were all charges against Esteban Ibarra-Ignacio, 22.
On April 6, authorities arrived at the Target store in response to a report of shoplifting. Because of the incident's possible link to a recent string of handbag thefts and fraudulent behavior at retail outlets nearby and elsewhere, police say there was a "strong response." According to previous reports, the thefts were carried out by groups of people who appeared to be of Latin or Hispanic ethnicity.
Ramirez-Gonzalez was in possession of $233.37 worth of stolen goods when he was arrested, according to police. The alleged operation's driver, Ibarra-Ignacio, was in possession of roughly $1,000 in unlawfully obtained goods, including an Apple Watch and an iPad Mini.
Detective Farnkopf was able to trace the April 6th shoplifting event to several thefts and false purchases conducted by all three subjects in various stores around the state. All three individuals were arrested and booked into the Ocean County Jail on warrants.
