Speeding Motorist Strikes a Car and a Traffic Light on Route 37 in Toms River

According to Toms River Police Department, at 12:30 PM on May 23, 2023, police units were called to the intersection of Route 37 and Hooper Avenue due to a reported car accident.

According to the preliminary investigation, Daniella Ippolitto, 36, of Toms River, was driving her SUV at a high rate of speed westbound on Route 37 when she lost control and slammed into a car that was stopped for a red light at the intersection.

She then struck a traffic signal, which fell into the road and required the closure of one lane eastbound on Route 37.

According to Jillian Messina, a public relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department, Daniella Ippolitto, 36, was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment following the collision that occurred at the intersection of Route 37 and Hooper Avenue at 12:30 p.m.

Ippolitto lost control of her SUV when changing lanes while traveling "at a high rate of speed" westbound on Route 37, according to Messina.

A 19-year-old man who was the only person in the stopped car received minor wounds. Ms. Ippolitto was taken to Community Medical Center to receive medical attention for her wounds.

She was issued tickets for reckless driving, failing to keep to the right, failure to maintain lane, and careless driving. Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald from Toms River is still looking into the collision.
