State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance in Impersonation of Law Enforcement Investigation

On May 3, 2026, at approximately 2:45 a.m., an incident involving the impersonation of a law enforcement officer occurred on I‑80 westbound prior to Exit 28 in Roxbury Township, Morris County. The victim reported being stopped by an individual posing as a police officer (in pictured red Chrysler 200), subjected to field sobriety tests, and handcuffed.

The victim was able to slip out of the handcuffs, return to her vehicle, and left the scene. At approximately 10:50 a.m., the victim arrived at Troop “B” Netcong Station to report the incident.

Through various investigative efforts, the suspect was identified as Julio Estrada‑Mogollon, a 36‑year‑old male from Wayne, NJ. On May 13, 2026, members of the Troop “B” Criminal Investigation Office arrested Estrada‑Mogollon at a residence on Knox Terrace in Wayne, NJ.

He was charged with attempted kidnapping, theft, and impersonation of law enforcement. He is currently lodged in the Morris County Jail pending future court appearances.
