Stay Warm New Jersey as Temperatures Plunge into the 20s Tonight

New Jersey may set new record lows in the 20s tonight, prompting a statewide freeze warning, only one week after the state experienced record-high temperatures in the 90s.

All 21 counties—aside from those nearest to the Jersey Shore—are under a freeze warning from midnight to nine in the morning on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, statewide temperatures in the low to mid-20s are predicted, while temperatures in northwest New Jersey might drop as low as 22 degrees.
The high temperatures on Monday will only be in the mid-40s to mid-50s, which is significantly below average for late April.

According to the meteorological service, isolated light showers may occur during the day, primarily southeast of the I-95 corridor, and some graupel—snow pellets that resemble little Styrofoam balls—may mix in because of cold air in the upper atmosphere.

The 1981 record low of 31 degrees for April 21 at Newark could be surpassed.

Tuesday will be extremely cold at first, but as the day goes on, the temperature will start to rise in the mid-to upper-50s.
Most of the state will see temperatures in the mid- to upper-60s by Wednesday.

With highs reaching the 70s in most of New Jersey, Thursday is predicted to be the warmest day of the week.

As a front moves closer, temperatures will start to drop once more on Friday, particularly around the Jersey Shore, where there is a chance of rain from Friday into Saturday.

By Sunday, a storm system might deliver heavy rain to the area, but it's still unclear when and how strong it will be.
