Stormy Weather Targets New Jersey With Heavy Rain, Thunder and Gusty Winds

New Jersey residents should prepare for an unsettled stretch of weather as a round of widespread showers and thunderstorms moves across the state, bringing periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and the potential for locally stronger storms.

Forecasters say increasing humidity and warmer temperatures will help fuel storm development, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. While not every community will see severe weather, scattered thunderstorms could become strong enough to produce brief downpours, lightning, and wind gusts capable of knocking down small branches and creating difficult travel conditions.

Thursday appears to bring the greatest chance for widespread storm activity across much of New Jersey. Interior locations could climb into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees before storms develop, while shore areas may remain slightly cooler. Gusty winds may exceed 30 mph in some locations as storms move through.

Drivers should plan extra travel time during periods of heavier rain and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions. Outdoor plans may also be impacted, especially later in the day as storms become more numerous.

Conditions are expected to improve after the storm system exits, with drier and more comfortable weather returning heading into the end of the week.

Stay weather aware and monitor local forecasts for updates as timing and storm intensity could still change.
