Rescue in Pt Pleasant Beach

According to Point Pleasant Beach police, a rip current entangled a 40-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon, forcing him to be rescued from the water.

Just before 4 o'clock, callers reported seeing a swimmer in trouble at New York Avenue; they claimed the man was caught in a rip current. Police entered the sea at Forman Avenue after spotting him drifting north in the ocean with his head above the surface. They were able to pull him to safety.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Point Pleasant First Aid and Dive Team also arrived, according to the police.

They claimed that the man was not hurt and declined first aid assistance.

According to authorities, this is the second time in the past 10 days that policemen had to wade into the water to rescue swimmers who were in trouble. "People are warned that swimming in places without lifeguards is unsafe. It is anticipated that there will be strong rip currents for some time to come. Do not swim in locations that are not supervised for your safety.
