According to the Township of Toms River, township officials have once again chosen to impose a temporary curfew for minors in Ortley Beach to the North Beach portion through Labor Day 2026 due to another busy season.

Memorial Day Weekend marked the formal start of the curfew, which will last until Labor Day Weekend on September 7, 2026.

With a few specific exceptions, such as returning home from work, medical emergencies, traveling to or from religious or educational events, and traveling to and from a private gathering, it prohibits children under the age of eighteen from being out unaccompanied by a parent or guardian from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to officials.

The curfew was implemented by Toms River police in 2021 after it was first established in 2020. It was resurrected in 2022 following a hectic July 4th weekend that had 195 calls to that area of the township over the course of three days, with 24 complaints especially regarding disruptive children on the barrier island.

Both Ortley Beach and the North Beach portion of Toms River, which is located between Brick and Lavallette, are subject to the curfew.
