Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides has Officially Resigned

Triantafillos Parlapanides, superintendent of the Central Regional School District, has resigned officially in the aftermath of the suicide of 14-year-old student Adriana Kuch.

Kuch's death, which was preceded by bullying and a video attack shared on social media, sparked outrage at the school and in the community, with many calling for the district administration to be fired immediately.

Triantafillos Parlapanides, superintendent of the Central Regional School District, resigned a day after the Daily Mail published comments from him that appear to reveal information about the private life of 14-year-old student, Adriana Kuch, who died by suicide this week.

He discussed aspects of the student's family life, which sparked outrage among those in the district who saw them as invading privacy and propriety.

The Board of Education confirmed the resignation of Parlapanides in a statement shared to the district website Saturday.

The Board named Douglas Corbett, assistant superintendent, as acting superintendent, effective immediately. Protesters have also demanded that Corbett resign.

Furthermore, the Board of Education announced that an investigation into the district's response to bullying allegations has begun.

"The Central Regional School District is currently evaluating all current and previous allegations of bullying," the Board stated. "The District has contacted the Department of Education and will have an independent assessment of the District's anti-bullying policies performed to ensure that all necessary safeguards are in place to protect our students and staff."

The announcement came following a vigil and balloon release for Kuch at Veterans Park on Saturday evening.

The four students involved in the filmed attack on Kuch have been charged, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. One student was charged with aggravated assault, two with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and another with harassment.
