Hoax threats have Reportedly Been Made Against Target locations around the nation, according to Brick Police Department
After a bomb threat was proven to be baseless, Target on Route 70 reopened Tuesday afternoon, according to Brick Township Police Department.
Brick Township Police Chief David Forrester posted a statement on the department's
Facebook page explaining why the store was shut down. "The Target store in Brick was closed for a brief while as a result of an unproven threat that was reported to us today by a reliable news source."
Authorities in a number of states, including North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin, have stated that the threats seem to be a part of a national hoax. Middletown and Clark, both in New Jersey, received similar threats against their businesses.
Soon after 1 p.m., according to Brick police, the Route 70 store was deemed safe and reopened for business.
Middletown police also confirmed a threat was made against the store there on Route 35. The Ocean Township and Manalapan stores were also the subject of threats.
As we investigated this event, the public's cooperation and understanding were appreciated, Chief Forrester and the Brick Township Police Department said in a statement.
The Breton Woods and Pioneer Hose companies' fire stations 21 and 22, the Office of Emergency Management, the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, and the Point Pleasant Beach police all provided assistance.
