Teen Driver Charged After SUV Hits Six Teens in NJ

A 16-year-old boy is accused of driving an SUV into six teenagers who were walking along a sidewalk in Lindenwold, New Jersey, Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The crash happened around 2:11 p.m. Oct. 6 on East Gibbsboro Road between South Berlin Road and Emerson Avenue, authorities said. The six teens were walking along the roadway when they were struck by the SUV.

Police said one of the victims became trapped underneath the vehicle. Emergency crews were able to lift the SUV and safely remove the teenager.

The victims, who ranged in age from 14 to 16, were transported for medical treatment. Five suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while the sixth teenager was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

Aerial footage from NBC showed the SUV after it crashed through a fence along the sidewalk.

Fire and rescue crews raised the SUV to safely free the person who had become trapped underneath. The victim was then airlifted to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the conditions of all six victims, who range in age from 14 to 16, were still being assessed.

Two individuals who were inside the SUV were taken into custody at the scene. No criminal charges had been filed as of Tuesday evening.
