The 2026 Boating Season is Officially Underway!
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office Marine Services Unit is back on the water! Their priority is keeping our waterways safe, but they need your help to ensure a safe and enjoyable season for everyone.
Before you launch, please keep these critical safety requirements and conditions in mind:
🔹 Boater Safety Certificate: Everyone operating a vessel must have a valid boater safety certificate in their possession.
🔹 Sober Boating: Never boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Safe navigation requires total focus.
🔹 Life Jackets: Ensure everyone on board wears a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. They save lives.
🔹 Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS): Always use an engine cut-off switch link while operating your vessel.
🔹 Local Waterway Hazard: Over the winter, Barnegat Bay waterways have experienced severe shoaling, and several channel markers are currently off station or have been destroyed. Please navigate with due caution. ⚓ Need Assistance? If you experience an emergency on the water, call 911 immediately or hail us on VHF Channel 16.
