Three People Killed

According to the Toms River Police Department, police and EMS units were called to a significant car accident near the intersection of Lakehurst Road and Hospital Drive on Friday, July 22, 2022, at around 12:25 AM.

According to the preliminary investigation, Tina Dung, a 21-year-old Maryland resident, was waiting for the traffic light when she continued past the red light and struck a Legacy Towing flatbed wrecker that was traveling east on Lakehurst Road.

Sadly, the crash resulted in the deaths of Ms. Dung's three passengers, who were all citizens of China.  The three victims—a 54-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man—all came from the same family.

Neither driver displayed any signs of intoxication. Ms. Dung was hurt in the accident, although just slightly. She was given a ticket for Failure to Observe a Traffic Signal.   The tow truck's driver and passenger both escaped harm.

Toms River Police Traffic Safety Officers Corporal Terry Warren and Michael Cassidy, as well as the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, are still investigating the collision.
