'Click It or Ticket' Reminder for Toms River Drivers

The state Division of Highway Traffic Safety is advising everyone to use their seatbelts while they drive over Memorial Day weekend.

According to a news release from the organization, the 2013 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign starts on Monday, May 22 and ends on Monday, June 2. New Jersey's police agencies will crack down on drivers who are not wearing seatbelts.

Seat Belts Saves Lives

The campaign is very crucial, and the message it conveys has the potential to save lives.

A $4,000 grant for seatbelt enforcement checkpoints and saturation patrols was given to 124 law enforcement departments, including Toms River. 52 percent of the 21,253 passenger car occupants killed in crashes in 2011 were not wearing seat belts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
