Toms River Little League Wins Second Game in Regionals

Toms River Defeats Rhode Island 3-2

Toms River East won 3-2 against Rhode Island on Sunday night to advance to Wednesday's game against either New York or Connecticut. The game will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

In the third inning, Phillipp LaGrossa's RBI groundout that scored Christian Mascaro broke the tie and brought in the go-ahead run.

Mascaro pitched four innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. The save was earned by Tyler Todaro, who recorded the final four outs. When Todaro struck out to conclude the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the bases were loaded.

A 2-0 deficit was overcome by Toms River East. Ryan Amaral's two-run home run for Rhode Island gave the game its first lead, but Toms River East tied the score in the bottom of the first inning. Logan Macchia singled in an RBI after Michael Mendes scored on a wild pitch.

As the first New Jersey team to do it since the illustrious Toms River East teams of 1998 and 1999, Toms River East is aiming to make it to the Little League World Series for the second straight season.
