Toms River Man Drowns in Bay

Officials say a 64-year-old man drowned in Barnegat Bay off the coast of Toms River on Thursday.

At about 6:10 p.m., four firefighters and a police officer dived into the bay near Mariners Cove apartments in an attempt to locate Wayne Brotsky, who was trying to remain afloat before sinking beneath the water's surface, according to Toms River police.

Brotsky was discovered unresponsive in the water after a ten-minute search. Brotsky, of Toms River, regained consciousness while being brought to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead later, according to authorities.

The incident is still being investigated, according to police.
