Toms River Man Loses Job Amid Fraud Investigation

A Toms River man who was terminated from his sales position is accused of defrauding customers by persuading them to send payments through Zelle to manage their accounts, even though he no longer had access to those accounts, according to Wall Township Police.

Christopher T. Ross, 37, was arrested Aug. 15 after a months-long investigation into alleged financial fraud and unauthorized solicitation of clients.

Detective Tyler Driscoll began investigating in April after receiving reports of suspected fraudulent activity. Investigators determined Ross had been fired from a local business, where he worked as a sales representative, on Feb. 9, 2026. Despite his termination, police said, he continued reaching out to former clients.

According to police, subpoenas issued to financial institutions revealed that the fraudulent Zelle payments were deposited into Ross’s personal bank account and used to cover personal expenses.

Authorities did not disclose the total amount of money allegedly taken from the clients.
