Toms River Man was Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

Roberto Sandoval-Guerrero

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said that a Toms River man was sentenced to seven years in prison for a tragic drunken-driving collision on the Garden State Parkway in 2020 that killed a New York man.

Roberto Sandoval-Guerrero, 38, of Toms River, was sentenced to seven years in prison, with the requirement that he complete 85 percent of his sentence under the No Early Release Act. Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer stated that Ocean County Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski also suspended his driving privileges for ten years, with the punishment beginning after his release from prison.

Sandoval-Guerrero pled guilty to vehicular homicide and driving while drunk in the murder of Daniel Cintron on September 15, 2020.

Cintron, 50, of Ossining, New York, was murdered at milepost 86 southbound around 11:15 p.m. while he and Frank Puglisi, 21, of Staten Island, exchanged information after a minor motor vehicle accident, according to authorities.

A 2002 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Sandoval-Guerrero collided with them as they were exchanging information. Cintron was flung into the lanes of traffic and was ran over by passing automobiles, while Puglisi was injured on the left arm. According to authorities, he died on the spot.

Sandoval-Guerrero drove away, eventually dumping the car on the side of the road and fleeing. He was apprehended near the intersection of Route 9 and Church Road. He had a blood alcohol level of.146, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to a blood test.

Since his arrest on Sept. 5, 2020, Sandoval-Guerrero has been imprisoned at the Ocean County Jail, according to Billhimer.

According to the prosecutor's office, Sandoval-guilty Guerrero's plea to the DWI allegation means he must place an ignition interlock device on the car he primarily runs for a year after the 10-year suspension of his driving privileges expires.
