Toms River Men Convicted of Murder

According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, two Toms River men have been convicted guilty of murder in connection with the shooting death of a Bayville man on October 11, 2020.

Daivon Sullivan, 21, and Leyron Jones, 26, were found guilty of murder in the killing of Javon Cutler, as well as conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and unlawful ownership of a firearm, according to Billhimer. The trial lasted three weeks. According to Billhimer, Sullivan was also found guilty of attempting to murder a third person.

The jury found beyond a reasonable doubt that Sullivan and Jones either intentionally or knowingly caused Cutler's death or the substantial bodily injury that led to Cutler's death.

They will be sentenced on October 20 and could receive a life sentence, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor.

After a very thorough and comprehensive investigation that spanned the course of nearly three weeks, it was determined that Sullivan, Jones and a third defendant - Shadrach Correa, 21, of Toms River - acted together and in support of one another in carrying out the shooting that resulted in the death of Javon Cutler.

All three defendants were charged in connection with Mr. Cutler’s murder on October 28, 2020. Correa had already been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since October 23, 2020 relative to an unrelated charge; Sullivan and Jones were apprehended on October 29, 2020, and have been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since they were taken into custody.

Correa entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful possession of a weapon on April 24, 2023. On September 8, 2023, he will be sentenced; the Court will decide how long to give Correa a prison term.

The Ocean County Medical Examiner ruled Cutler's death was caused by the "intermediate-distance gunshot wound to the head," Billhimer said.
