Four Charged With Hindering Capture of Toms River Murder Suspect

TOMS RIVER — Four individuals from Ocean and Monmouth counties have been charged with hindering the apprehension of Douglas Cobb, the Toms River man wanted for the September 18, 2026 murder of Bruce Gress, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.

According to investigators, Ronald Hagan, 50, of Brick Township; Sylvester Green, 43, of Bayville; Cherice Nicholson, 46, of Howell; and Jennifer Rizalvo, 48, of Lakewood each played a role in helping Cobb avoid capture or provided false information to law enforcement during the search for him.

Investigation & Arrests

Detectives determined that all four suspects assisted Cobb as he attempted to evade authorities following the fatal shooting of Bruce Gress, 42, in Toms River.

• Ronald Hagan is currently a fugitive. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and his information has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
• Sylvester Green was arrested on September 24, 2026 and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains pending a detention hearing.
• Cherice Nicholson was also taken into custody and lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
• Jennifer Rizalvo was served with a summons and will appear in Ocean County Superior Court.

Prosecutor’s Statement

“These arrests send a powerful message that anyone who intentionally aids Douglas Cobb evade law enforcement will be held accountable and face consequences for their unlawful actions,” Prosecutor Billhimer said. “We are working round‑the‑clock to apprehend Cobb so that he may be brought to justice for the killing of Bruce Gress.”

Billhimer added that the photograph released with the announcement is body‑worn camera footage of Cobb from June 2026.
