Toms River Pedestrian Airlifted After Being Hit On Route 37

Woman Airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center

On Sunday, a woman was walking down Route 37 when she was struck by a car, sustaining a major leg injury, according to Toms River police.

According to Jillian Messina, a media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department, the woman, whose age and place of residence were not disclosed, was struck just after 6 o'clock near Hawser Place.

The investigation revealed that the woman had been crossing the street when she turned into oncoming traffic, according to Messina.

She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment after officers found her conscious and alert, according to Messina.

The inquiry is ongoing, according to Messina, and the driver remained at the scene and displayed no signs of intoxication.
