Toms River Structure Fire: Solar Panels Ignite

According to a news release from Toms River Bureau of Fire Preventionseveral solar panels were reported to be on fire at a house on Mapletree Road at around 2:09 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, prompting the Pleasant Plains Fire Department, Silverton Volunteer Fire Company, East Dover Fire Company, and Toms River Fire Company No. 2 to react.

The first responding units verified that there was a fire involving about four solar panels on the roof of a two-story residential building.

To put out the fire and limit the damage to the solar panels on the home's roof, the crews used a single 1-3/4" hose line. The crews worked for almost half an hour. The fire did not result in any injuries to firefighters or civilians.

Inspector LaVigne of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the fire. At this point, it seems as though the circumstances leading up to the fire were accidental.
