Tornado Potential Grows with Severe Weather Alerts in New Jersey

Forecasters have issued a severe thunderstorm watch and a flood watch for portions of New Jersey due to the possibility of "a couple tornadoes" before Monday night.

The National Weather Service's (NWS) most recent forecast calls for some flash flooding and sporadic, severe thunderstorms late on Monday afternoon and evening.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for portions of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland as these thunderstorms get closer.
Atlantic, Cape May, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Somerset, Burlington, Cumberland, Mercer, Ocean, Camden, Gloucester, Middlesex, and Salem Counties are currently on a watch until nine o'clock at night.

The NWS predicts that storms will have the potential to produce "locally severe wind gusts, hail, and locally heavy rainfall."

Forecasters also said a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
The NWS is forecasting that these thunderstorms will have "damaging wind gusts" that could reach up to 70 MPH, despite the fact that the day started off on the milder side.

Severe weather is predicted to occur between 3 p.m. and late on Monday.

Forecasters noted that in addition to sporadic thunderstorms, Jersey Shore beaches in Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May Counties are at a high risk of developing "dangerous and life-threatening rip currents" on Monday.

Residents are advised by the NWS to keep an eye on the most recent forecasts and ensure that they can receive watches and warnings. Stay up to date with the latest forecast.
