Tornadoes, Thunderstorms, and 60 mph Winds are Expected Today

New Jersey is in for a stormy start to the week, with destructive winds of up to 60 mph expected to be the biggest concern. Forecasters say large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible.

While patchy fog is likely to clear through the morning commute on Monday, the afternoon is predicted to bring showers and severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

"Numerous severe storms are possible this afternoon," the National Weather Service Mount Holly station tweeted Monday morning. "Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat, with large hail and isolated tornadoes also possible."

All New Jersey counties were under a hazardous weather forecast as of 6:25 a.m. Monday, with severe thunderstorms anticipated later in the day.

The cold front linked with this storm, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards, will dig over the Eastern states on Monday. According to Accuweather experts, the most powerful storms will hit between Monday afternoon and Monday evening.

As a cold front travels through the state, the most likely time for severe weather is between 1 and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Storms are expected to intensify between 3 and 5 p.m. in the western half of the state, then move eastward to impact the Jersey Shore between 4 and 8 p.m.

According to the agency's map, areas north of the I-95 corridor, as well as sections of southwestern New Jersey, are predicted to receive multiple severe storms on Monday, while the rest of the state will only get scattered severe storms.

The high will be in the mid-80s today morning, with a low of 56. The rest of the week will be generally sunny, with temperatures in the 70s.
