Tractor-Trailer Crash on Route 70 in Ocean County: 2 Hospitalized

Arrests

According to Manchester Police Department, a driver ran a red light and struck a tractor-trailer and then another automobile at the Route 70 and Route 539 intersection in Manchester on Thursday night, two people were still in the hospital on Friday.

At the Community Medical Center in Toms River,  Lisa Kopcho, 45, of Manchester was listed as stable. According to Sgt. Joseph Fastige. she had non-life-threatening injuries.

Khalilah Hickman, 47, was also rushed to Community Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fastige. She was also noted as being stable.

Thursday around 6:16 p.m., the collision was reported, according to Manchester Sgt. Joseph Fastige.

According to the investigation, Hanna Ruark, 27, who was driving a 2020 Toyota Sienna north on Route 539, failed to stop for a red light and entered the intersection with Route 70, striking Denell Sanders, 47, of Bear, Delaware, on the driver's side of a blue 2016 Peterbilt tractor-trailer as it was making a right turn onto Route 539, Fastige said.

The collision pushed the Toyota into the Route 539 southbound turning lane where it collided with Kopcho's 2013 Hyundai Elantra that was stopped at the red signal.

According to police, Bordentown resident Ruark was unharmed in the collision.

The accident caused a portion of Routes 70 and 539 to be closed for just under two hours.

The investigation into this collision is still ongoing, but at this point, Fastige said, it looks that failing to pay attention to a traffic signal was the main cause.
