Police in Nashville have confirmed that the musician and former Wall High School student who was struck by a stray bullet on Tuesday has passed away.

Jillian Ludwig was declared dead by Metro Nashville Police in a tweet on Thursday morning, stating that she died "during the night."

According to Nashville Metropolitan Police, Ludwig, an 18-year-old student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, was hurt on Tuesday afternoon while she was walking along a track in Edgehill Memorial Gardens Park.

Ludwig reportedly attended Wall High School, as evidenced by her social media posts. She was also a musician who performed with the bands Arcadia and Good Morning Beautiful, both based in New Jersey.

Ludwig was a regular performer on the Asbury Park music scene in addition to being a student at the Lakehouse Music Academy. Her passing has left friends, musicians, and music lovers in mourning.

Photographer Jeff Crespi described her as "one of the nicest people in the world" and as a very sweet girl. "While most children go off to college, she appeared to be content with her life. It's the beginning of their lives, as it were."

According to an email sent by the university to students and staff on Tuesday, Ludwig was a first-year music business major.

A bystander discovered her on the ground at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and alerted the police, according to the department. Ludwig was brought to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where her condition was initially listed as critically ill.

Police said a review of surveillance camera footage and witness information led to the identification of 29-year-old Shaquille Taylor as the suspected gunman. Taylor admitted to firing shots during an interview with detectives at police headquarters and claimed to have given the gun involved to another person, police said.

Taylor was taken into custody just before 10 p.m. Tuesday and is jailed in lieu of a $280,000 bond on charges of aggravated assault and evidence tampering, Nashville Police said.

Since Ludwig's passing, Metro Nashville Police have been in communication with the District Attorney's Office "about modified charges" against Taylor, the department tweeted.
