Tragic Loss: Teen Pulled from New Jersey Pond on July Fourth

On July Fourth, an 18-year-old male was retrieved from a pond in Morris Township and died, according to authorities.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office identified the victim as Morristown resident Hillario Manuel Mendez-Vincente.

According to the prosecutor's office, a witness saw a guy enter Jones Pond at approximately 6:28 p.m. and phoned the police after witnessing him struggle to swim.

After searching, first responders found Mendez-Vicente submerged.
The Morris County Medical Examiner's Office will perform a post-mortem examination, according to the prosecutor's office. There is no suspicion of foul play.

Morris Township Mayor Donna Guariglia told MorristownGreen.com that two young males came out of Jones Woods with Mendez-Vincente, saying, "Call 911," and claiming their friend was missing.

She told the outlet, "It's simply a horrific thing."

According to her, swimming is not allowed in the pond. The investigation is being carried out by the Morris Township Police Department and the prosecutor's office.
