Victim Flown by Helicopter to the Burn Center After House Fire in South Toms River

According to a Press Release from Manitou Park Fire Company, at approximately 12:30 pm on Saturday, August 14, 2021, fire companies Manitou Park Fire Company, Pinewald Pioneer Fire Co., Bayville Volunteer Fire Dept, South Toms River EMS, and South Toms River Police Department were all dispatched to an address on Annapolis Court for a reported a house fire with entrapment.

Three firefighters from local agencies saw the smoke prior to the fire being dispatched and located the residence on fire. These firefighters arrived on scene and attempted to make entry to conduct a primary search. By the time first due Ladder 1835 arrived conditions worsened and the firefighters had to exit the structure. It was later discovered that no one was entrapped inside the residence and the dog had escaped and was ok.

One resident had suffered moderate to severe burns as a result of the fire and was flown to St. Barnanas Burn Center in Livingston and is in stable condition. The fire was extinguished and as a result there were (3) firefighters that suffered minor injuries with one being transported to and released from Community Medical Center. Several other firefighters suffered heat related illnesses and were able to resume on scene operations after a short rest .

The Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s CSI and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the fire, according to the statement.
