GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY- BEAR SEEN ON CAMPUS (TLS Video)

Posted by Lakewood Police Department on Friday, June 24, 2022

GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY Campus Safety observed a bear on campus.

The bear was observed near the guardhouse at the front entrance of campus and was walking along the fence line at Ninth St. The bear is currently off campus and walking along the lake at North Lake Dr.

If you spot any wild animal on campus and are concerned, please stay away from it and contact the Office of Campus Safety at extension 2611 or 732-987-2611.

Our office is also in touch with local animal control officials.

Please observe these precautions and guidelines, which are provided by the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife:

Bear Precautions

The following guidelines can help reduce the likelihood of conflicts with bears:

· Never feed a bear. Deliberately feeding bears puts pets and other residents in the neighborhood at risk.

· Put garbage in tightly closed containers that cannot be tipped over.

· Remove sources of water, especially in dry climates.

· Bring pets in at night.

· Put away bird feeders at night to avoid attracting rodents and other prey.

· Pick up fallen fruit and cover compost piles.

· Install motion-sensitive lighting around the house.

· Clear brush and dense weeds from around dwellings - this reduces protective cover for bears and makes the area less attractive.

If a bear is present, make sure they know they're not welcome. Make loud noises, blast a canned air siren.

Again, if you spot any wild animal on campus and are concerned, please stay away from it and contact the Office of Campus Safety at extension 2611 or 732-987-2611.
