Weather Alert: Strong Winds in New Jersey

According to the National Weather Service, strong winds are forecast to develop on Wednesday, especially during the evening hours as a strong cold front sweeps across the region. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph may blow around unsecured items or cause some isolated power outages. Prepare for windy conditions!

Hazardous Weather: Locally heavy rain showers with isolated thunderstorms will develop Wednesday evening with gusty winds. Showers end late Wednesday night. Strong south winds develop on Wednesday, ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and gusts up to 45 mph possible along the New Jersey shore. Winds shift to the northwest late Wednesday night and will diminish during the day Thursday.

Locations affected: Southeast Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the eastern shores of Maryland.

Timing: The strongest winds and heaviest rain will affect the area Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Impacts: Gusty winds could result in downed trees and power lines and localized power outages. Heavy rain could result in minor flooding, mainly of poor drainage areas.

Confidence of occurrence: High confidence overall.

According to weather.gov, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers between noon and 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm.

Cloudy, with a high near 61. Breezy, with a south wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
