Weather Alert: Torrential Weekend Rains Could Spark Flash Floods in New Jersey

Rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour have prompted flood warnings across New Jersey on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The latest forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms from late Saturday into the early hours of Sunday.

A shift in the storm’s track has led to flood alerts across much of the state. The flood watch covers Bergen, Union, Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Morris, Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem, Somerset and Burlington counties.

Forecasters said parts of southern New Jersey along the Delaware River face a slight risk of excessive rainfall that could result in flash flooding.

Ahead of the weekend storm system, Friday is expected to remain mostly dry across the Garden State, although scattered showers could develop before noon in South Jersey.
