Will Severe Weather Hit New Jersey Sunday? Here's What to Expect

New Jersey could see several rounds of showers and thunderstorms from late Saturday night through Sunday morning. Forecasters warn that some storms may become strong or even severe, bringing gusty winds and localized flash flooding, with northern parts of the state facing the greatest risk.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front moving into the region late Saturday is expected to spark showers and thunderstorms that could linger into Sunday morning.

Some areas could experience periods of heavy rain, which may cause isolated flash flooding. However, widespread flooding is not anticipated.

By Sunday afternoon, skies should turn partly to mostly sunny across much of New Jersey. Forecasters say there is still a slight chance for a few pop-up showers or isolated thunderstorms through Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service says Monday should usher in a period of calmer, drier weather that is expected to continue through the middle of next week. High pressure will dominate the region, bringing mostly tranquil conditions through Wednesday.

Temperatures should remain near normal, with afternoon highs generally reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s.

The threat of showers and thunderstorms could increase again late next week as another storm system moves toward the region from the west, forecasters said. Check the local forecast.
