According to the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office, a woman found unresponsive in the woods died of natural causes.
On June 4, 2021, the Ocean Township Police Department got a complaint of an unresponsive female along County Line Road in Waretown in a wooded portion of the Barnegat Branch Rail Trail; responding officers discovered the corpse of a deceased woman.
The body of Ms. Campana was positively identified by the Ocean County Medical Examiner on June 5, 2021. The results of a forensic toxicology study provided in conjunction with Ms. Campana's post-mortem examination were disclosed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner on October 25, 2021. Ms. Campana's death was judged to be due to natural causes by the Medical Examiner.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office assisted the investigation.
