Woman Struck Crossing Hooper Avenue in Critical Condition

Woman Hit, Critically Injured

According to Toms River police, a lady was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Hooper Avenue on Wednesday March 9, 2022 at approximately 1:15 PM.

According to Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department, the woman suffered a head injury and was semi-conscious when she was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

According to Messina, the woman was crossing Hooper Avenue at the junction of Washington Street around 1:15 p.m. when she was struck by an 18-year-old Beachwood vehicle who was making a left turn from Washington Street with a green arrow.

The woman was not at the crosswalk and crossed against the "Do Not Walk" signal, according to witnesses, and she was carrying an umbrella that may have impeded her view of turning vehicles, according to Messina.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen is investigating the accident.

There are no summonses at this time, Messina said.

Toms River Police EMS responded along with multiple sheriff's officers, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Crime Investigation Unit.
