Police Responds to Ortley Beach Crowds
The majority of the teens and young adults who traveled for the vacation, according to the authorities, were law-abiding, but a small number of incidents led to arrests.
As a result of the vacation bringing many teens and young adults to the beach, police in Toms River had to separate many large crowds of people over the July 4 holiday weekend, leading to multiple arrests.
According to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, it included a significant altercation outside Barnacle Bill's Amusements on Route 35 north in Ortley Beach. According to data, the sheriff's office responded to roughly 2,000 calls throughout the whole county over the holiday.
When asked about the altercation at Barnacle Bill's, Toms River police replied only that it was one of more than 600 calls received around the township over the weekend.
According to Jillian Messina, public relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department, over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, they had a number of juveniles and young adults congregate on the beach area of our town.

The majority of them, according to Messina, frequented neighborhood shops and engaged in authorized activities, but some large groups formed, and several members of such groups caused a number of problems, leading to many arrests. Patrol officers swiftly addressed and dealt with these gatherings.
Two police officers were allegedly assaulted during the Barnacle Bill fight, according to News 12.
Over the holiday weekend, Toms River police responded to 628 calls in total, including 195 in the township's beach areas. This represents 30% of the town's police calls.
According to Messina, 34 of the 628 calls were directly about juveniles, and 24 of those were in the coastal communities.
According to her, 108 calls about fireworks and 75 calls about disorderly behavior, 11 of which came from beach communities. Three of the 108 calls regarding fireworks also came from beach towns.
