South Jersey Crash Kills One, Injures Two

VINELAND, NJ — A 68-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed Saturday morning when his SUV was struck by a Tesla on Route 55 in Vineland, according to New Jersey State Police.

Phillip Eastman of Springfield, Pennsylvania, sustained fatal injuries in the crash, which was reported at approximately 8:31 a.m., said Trooper Caitlin Brennan.

Police said the Tesla was traveling southbound on Route 55 when its driver lost control near milepost 34.6. The vehicle veered off the roadway to the left, crossed the grassy median, struck a tree and continued into the northbound lanes of Route 55, where the crash occurred.
When the Tesla entered the northbound lanes, it collided with the Chevrolet SUV, killing Eastman and injuring his passenger, Brennan said.

The Tesla driver, whose identity was not released, was also injured in the crash. Both the Tesla driver and Eastman’s passenger were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described by police as moderate.

The crash remains under investigation.
