According to the New Jersey State Police, a woman from Passaic County was killed Sunday night after stepping out of a car and onto the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway.
According to State Police, Judith Morillo-Rosario, 53, of the Haskell neighborhood of Wanaque, was struck by a southbound car at 7:19 p.m. close to milepost 87 in Toms River.
Morillo-Rosario was riding along in the car of Barry Braunstein's, 66, of Haskell. His car stopped in the shoulder of the Parkway's southbound lanes prior to the collision, according to police. She exited the car and started to cross the southbound lanes when a car sped away, hitting her, according to the police.
According to State Police, Morillo-Rosario passed away from her injuries.
According to the authorities, Braunstein was detained and charged with DUI.
The accident continues to be investigated.
