Seaside Heights Man Charged in Hit and Run in Manchester

According to Manchester police, a Seaside Heights man who lost control of his vehicle on Schoolhouse Road after hitting another vehicle and fleeing the scence needed to be extricated because his automobile had overturned and trapped him.

According to Manchester Capt. Vincent Manco, Christopher H. Cornell Jr., 31, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was treated for injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

According to Manco, Cornell, who was found in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. There are pending criminal and motor vehicle charges, he said.

According to him, the collision occurred on Schoolhouse Road close to Gardenia Drive at 4:37 p.m. At the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Route 530, Cornell, who was operating a 2019 Kia Optima, rear-ended David J. Lobdell, 47, of Lanoka Harbor, who was operating a 2015 Volvo S60.

Manco claimed that after taking off, Cornell was unable to get around the curve on Schoolhouse Road and veered off the road, hitting a sizable pine tree in the process. According to Cornell, the pine tree fell onto the automobile, trapping Cornell inside as it flipped and landed on its roof.

According to Manco, the Volvo incurred little damage, and Lobdell reported minor injuries but declined medical assistance.
