Proposed Dog Park Rules in Toms River

Dog Park in Toms River

Proposed Ordinance

A proposed ordinance in Toms River would impose a number of restrictions on dog owners who wish to use the dog park in the Silverton neighborhood.

The off-leash park off Maine Street would have to comply with the rules outlined in the ordinance, which was presented at the Township Council meeting on September 28.

Town officials say the park might open in October after awarding Vulcan Construction a $240,000 contract in August. It will have parking, benches, recycling bins, pet waste stations, a walking route, new landscaping, and 4 to 10 feet high vinyl fencing.

According to the proposed code, dog owners would need a permit from the township's recreation department in order to use the park, and the canines would also need to be licensed and immunized.

There will be a limit of two dogs per person and a maximum of 20 dogs allowed in the park at once. Puppies under six months old won't be allowed. When entering and exiting the park, dogs must be on a leash.

According to the proposed ordinance, sick or violent pets as well as unneutered male dogs and female dogs in heat are prohibited.

According to the proposed ordinance, you must clean up after your dog and you cannot feed it treats in the park.

The ordinance will go into force 20 days after the council's approval is published, which is probably in November.
