According to Seaside Park Police, the body that washed ashore in Seaside Park on Wednesday morning was that of a Howell Township man who had been missing since Sunday night.
Police identified the man as 31 year old, Wilmer Chavez, 31, of Howell, New Jersey.
According to
Seaside Park Police Sgt. Andrew Casole, Chavez's body was found at the G Street Avenue beach after it was discovered on the surf around 7 a.m.
When several swimmers got caught in a rip current at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in Seaside Park, Chavez went missing. Since then, authorities have been looking for him. Helicopter searches had been conducted daily searching for him.
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office warned citizens not to swim in areas without lifeguards on duty early on Wednesday.
According to the alert, "We continue to receive calls for water rescues, particularly after hours."
