Pilot Identified in Tragic Ocean County Plane Crash

The pilot of the small plane that crashed on September 2, 2023, close to the Robert J. Miller Airpark, has been identified thanks to the efforts of the Lacey Township Police Department and the investigating authorities.

It has been confirmed that the pilot is Oscar Molina, 61, of Ocean Avenue in Long Branch, New Jersey. The pilot's family has officially been informed. The Lacey Township Police Department's officers send the Molina family their heartfelt condolences.

The single-engine Cirrus SR22, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, went down on Saturday night at 10:18 p.m., about a half-mile southwest of the Ocean County Airport in Bayville.

About 30 miles to the north of the crash location, in Farmingdale, is where the flight took off from. According to officials, the collision sparked a wildfire close to Lacey Township's Robert J. Miller Airpark.

By Tuesday morning, that fire was completely under control. According to officials, it affected more than 800 acres of property but did not harm any structures. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
