Hit and Run Under Investigation

Following two hit-and-run accidents in Manchester on Sunday, two pedestrians were injured and brought to the hospital, according to Manchester Police Department on Monday.

A few hours separated the two hit-and-runs, according to Sgt. Joseph Fastige. Authorities are looking for information from the public to help them identify the cars or their drivers.

According to Fastige, Daniel Beatty, 71, of Manchester, was struck on Northampton Boulevard close to the exit for Silverwoods Independent Living and sustained injuries to his head and left hand.

Beatty, who was alive and alert, told police he was struck by a pick-up truck leaving Silverwoods as he was crossing East Point Drive just before 1 o'clock in the afternoon, according to Fastige. Beatty was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was told that his wounds did not seem to be life-threatening.

Fastige said Beatty described the pickup as an older gray or silver Chevrolet that appeared to be moving quickly. According to him, the pickup was last seen traveling toward Route 37 on Northampton Boulevard.

According to the preliminary inquiry, the main causes of the collision were failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to yield to a pedestrian, he added.

According to Police, the second hit-and-run occurred on Sunday soon before 8 o'clock. A dark-colored, perhaps blue Hyundai sport utility vehicle struck Mark Bryan, age 59, as he crossed Route 37 near Bone Hill Road.

Bryan was knocked to the ground when the SUV struck him as it was turning left from Buckingham Drive, according to Fastige. Bryan was hit by the SUV and had injuries to the right side of his body. He was transferred to Community Medical Center. According to Fastige, his wounds did not seem to be life-threatening.

The initial cause, according to him, is failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The Manchester Township Police Department is requesting that anyone with knowledge of the drivers or cars involved in either collision get in touch with them. Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department's Traffic Safety Unit is looking into both collisions.

Emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital provided assistance at both crash locations.
